Mario Interlude
Note : This chapter is cut into 3 acts, so each act will be shorter than the previous ones (however the two following will be longer than this one, it's only the introduction). Thank you for your comprehension.
During the cruise, Peach told everyone what she had learned : the Tower of the Shine Sprites was a "cage" for something known as the "Dark Lighthouse" a soul-catching and brainwashing device, powered by the power of a mysterious girl... She explained how the Shine Lenses were created and that ColdFang was possessed by an ancient being dubbing himself "Dark King". After this, the group separated, Mario and Peach went staring at the sea together while the partners were cheering together. Ray and Solenne also isolated themselves.
"Oooh! I already see it, the great title : BREAKING NEWS! A group of 11 heroes led by the famous Mario rescued the Princess and retrieve mysterious artefacts!" Vahanessa gloated. "I can't wait to get started!!!"
Chump was jumping around her, excited.
"Yeah! And don't forget to talk about how AWESOME I was! BAM!" Josh added. "Let's be honest, without me you guys would have been in a fix!"
"Woh-oh-oh, calm down big baby!" Rosy laughed. "It's thanks to teamwork that we prevailed. But I must admit, I did pretty good!"
"So did I! Without my magic..." Akazam started.
Everyone is staring at him with an unimpressed frown on their face.
"... Y-yeah! Nevermind!" He concluded.
"Now that we are finished, we can finally go home!" Boon giggled.
"Some rest will be well-received!" Swoona added. "Maybe I could even sleep in a little... I think I'll allow myself to get up at 8 A.M."
"I wonder how Monterey Jack is doing." Ariana wondered. "I should go check on him when we're done..."
"Calypso must miss me and our egg too." Nep whispered, sobbing a little. "... H-Hey! Why are you all staring at me ? I ain't crying... I got... salt... in my eyes."
Dave said nothing.
"Port Alabast!" Boomberto shouted. "We'll moor shortly."
They all disembark, only Boomberto and Fuzzy Pete remains aboard.
"First, we should bring Princess Peach to Toadsworth!" Solenne suggested. "I wouldn't like the old man to get an ulcer from worrying too much."
They all agree and bing her to the inn. Upon seeing her, Toadsworth face turns white as he collapses. Luigi also is also there to greet the princess.
"Princess Peach! It's good to have you back! Are you feeling well?" Luigi asked.
"Thanks hum... you! I'm fine, eing adbucted by these horrible fiends was quite a frightful experience... However thanks to Ray and Dave I managed to go thought it."
"You should remain here and get some rest." Ray suggested. "We'll go to the tower and place the final Shine Lens."
"Very well! I'll... pray the stars for... the success of your mission."
The team and the Shine Spirits leave the inn and returned to the tower.
Chapter 10 Act 1
The beacon stands before them. The nine-sided columne is almost complete, the only thing left being to put the final Shine Lens in its socket... Mario approaches the beacon... He places the final Shine Lens. The beacon lights on except this time, it remains lit. Everybody rejoices.
"Can I have a word with you all?" Solenne shouted suddenly. "There's something that's been bugging me for quite a while, it's very important!"
"What is it, sis?" Ray asked. "You've been acting strangely since we defeated ColdFang..."
"Precisely!" She hesitated. "Don't you think... it was a little too easy? I mean, not getting the lenses back but dealing with the pirates... During our whole adventure, how many time have we met the pirates... Only twice, at the fountain and in the jungle. ColdFang didn't seem to care a whole lot about us getting the Shine Lenses... It's almost as if..."
"He wanted you to collect them... Is that what you think?" Ray gasped suddenly... "Now that I think of it... After we escaped, he was the only one to come after us."
"And beside... remember what we learnt on the boat?" She added. "He was possessed by a being which was directly linked to this tower, the Dark King."
"Yeah! That's what Peach told us!" The partner added.
"He was a being of pure evil which wanted to use the dark powers of his daughter to expand his influence, thanks to Amarillant technology and dark magic... He was defeated, his Dark Lighthouse was sealed inside the Tower of the Shine Sprite... Have you realized, yet?" Solenne asked. "We've been told the first part of this story a while back..."
"The Amarillant Prince and the Emptian Girl..." The partner gasped.
"Exactly. These two stories are the complementary..." Solenne nodded.
"So basically... You think this... Dark King and the Emptian Leader were one and the same... He possessed ColdFang in need of a body and wanted this to happen? But why would he..." The partner thought.
"Brilliant, just brilliant" A voice said. "It looks like you have figured out more than I thought..."
The princess appears from behind a column. Her face showing an evil grin.
"Princess?" Ray asked. "W-what... H-how did you get here?"
"Oh! It's quite simple, I just followed you and hide." She laughed. "Oh! And let me thank you for this little spectacle, it was delightful!"
Mario approaches her but Solenne stops him.
"Don't get near her! It's not the princess, it's HIM! How did you get there?"
"You were so easily fooled... I almost feel guilty!" the princess laughed. "It was so easy, I knew you would never suspect your sweet little princess to be your enemy! As for how I got here? Lady Solenne, you hurt me... Do you think I'm so dumb I couldn't figure out how to open the portal linking the tower and Port Alabast?"
"Wait... You..." Ray gasped.
"Yes! Just before ColdFang bowed out, I used the remnants of the dark powers from the Shine Lens to switch host... It's a little stiff, though I won't need her much longer... Let me explain...
Deep down, at the base of the tower lies the control room of this place, as well as my pride and joy... A syphon that absorbs the powers from my departed daughter, from this Lily Pad bed that overgrown shrimp told you about... The energy is then treated by the Amarillant technology to become a corrupting power. This power is then released from a beacon of darkness, located right in the middle of this room... You should have seen it in action, it was wonderful. Those bathed in the darkness emitted would lose their soul and become my slaves... It would also had some effects on the environment but that's a minor detail. Anyway, this beacon of darkness is still active, emprisoned behind this nine-sided column. And his dark energy... It's being purified by those wretched Shine Lenses of yours! They are nothing but mere filters, preventing my darkness to leak out.
When I attacked the tower, I had only one thing in mind... To get rid of these abominations. I knew that once every fifty year, the power of the lenses faded and had to be recharged... that's why the Shine Sprites gathers to this place... I planned to invade the tower and stop the controls. How did I know how to strike? Let's say my machine sensed her master coming home and wanted to see him again. I guess she emitted a little more darkness than usual which caused the disapperance spell to be delayed... However, something I didn't expect happened. The Shine Lenses flew away.
They may be simple filters but they also are the key to the basement of this place... Without them, the trapdoor leading to the inferior levels is shut tight... I first planned to go after them myself... That's when I saw HER. The exact replica of the girl who caused me so much pain and her two little shiny friends. I took her, hoping she might know something about the tower, but no... Some time later, I learnt of Mario, the great hero doing his best to save his special someone... So then I thought, why should I do the dirty work when someone else could do it for me? So I let you gather all the Shine Lenses and bring them back here...
Let me say this, I'm impressed. Your tower managed to contain my darkness without the Shine Lenses for quite some times... But once my machine is free, I'll use it to created myself a new body and discard this one, just like I did with the previous one. For now, I'll just use her powers to released the seal on the gate!
"Now, witness her great powers!" He laughed. "I Warlon, Dark King and Leader to the Emptian, order this door to open."
"N-no... Stop her...him!" A voice whispered.
